Air Consolidators
If you are considering international air travel, you may want to consider the use of a
consolidator. A consolidator buys, in bulk (and at a discounted price), air tickets that the airline feels it may
not be able to sell on their own. They then sell individual tickets to travel agents or individuals, marking them
up to generate a profit. The advantage to the airlines is they sell more tickets and are more likely to increase
their load factor. The advantage to the traveler is that they buy the tickets at a price that is generally lower
than what is otherwise available.

Buying a ticket from a consolidator will, in all likelihood, not be like booking directly through the airline.
Your choices of flight times and carriers may be more limited, for example. You will likely be dealing with a smaller
operation than a major (or even minor) airline. This doesn't mean that you can't get excellent service from a consolidator,
just that it is not automatic (and face it, it's not automatic with the airlines, either!) You will want to do
business with someone who does as large a volume of business as possible and has access to the maximum number of
flights. If possible, pay by credit card. Not only is it more convenient (although you may be charged a handling
fee) you will have some recourse should a snafu develop. If you have any doubts or questions about an air consolidator,
contact the BBB in the area in which the consolidator is located.
